Hand Rejuvenation
Hand Rejuvenation
Don’t let your hands give away your age! So many of us are focused on our face and our chest that we forget about our hands. The skin on our hands is not only delicate, but it’s often exposed to the elements. Sun, wind and cold can really wreak havoc on the look and appearance of your hands. Furthermore, just like on the face, we lose volume in our hands over time. This results is prominent, ropey looking veins and tendons that can make you look and feel years older than you are. Thankfully, there are a number of cosmetic procedures on the market today that can help address the early signs of aging in the hands.*
Dr. David Sieber has extensive training in all of the latest surgical and non-surgical modalities for hand rejuvenation. For sun spots, brown patches and overall dullness, he typically recommends the BBL to rejuvenate the skin on the back of the hands.* For lost volume, there are two options. Fillers do a wonderful job of plumping which helps to eliminate the ropey look of those veins, but the results are temporary.*
For a better solution, Dr. Sieber can perform fat grafting in which he removes a bit of fat from a part of your body that may have too much, such as the abdomen, and injects it into your hands. All of these options will be discussed with you in detail during your initial consultation.
Hand rejuvenation surgery can improve:*
- Appearance of visible veins and tendons
- Lost volume in backs of hands
- Sun spots and brown spots

Hand Rejuvenation Technique
Eliminating the excess pigment, sun spots and dullness on the hands may require 3-4 treatments with the BBL laser. The treatment is fast with little to no downtime, but you need to be vigilant afterwards about wearing a UV sunscreen.* During the same appointment, Dr. Sieber can use fillers to plump up the backs of your hands for a fuller look.* Again, treatment with fillers is an in office, simple procedure. However, fat grafting to your hands is a bit more invasive as it requires liposuction from another area to harvest the fat cells. This procedure is typically done in an operating room as a same day surgery. Commonly, hand rejuvenation using fat grafting is performed in conjunction with facial rejuvenation surgery such as a facelift.
Preparing for Hand Rejuvenation
As with any major surgery, all medications and supplements which cause an increased risk of bleeding should be stopped 2 weeks prior to surgery. Please see our list of medications and supplements to avoid. As always, make sure to check with your doctor before stopping any medications.
Recovery from Hand Rejuvenation
After your BBL treatment, your skin may appear red for the first 24 hours. Immediately after treatment, any pigment will be darker and will gradually fall off within 30 days of treatment. You need to wait at least 30 days between your BBL treatments.
Recovery from fillers is minimal. You may experience some bruising and swelling, but this will resolve within 24-72 hours. If your hands were injected with fat, there will be moderate swelling for up to 1 week after treatment.
